Katie’s Field Experience at Akins High School

Today Mrs. Z came and spoke to our class. It was very comforting to hear what she went through as a first year teacher. As a college student we think that once we graduate things are going to be easier. We won’t have homework, we won’t be as stressed, and life will be great. One thing is true, life will be great. However, stress and homework are still going to be there. I saw how Mrs. Z truly cared about her students and I know I will too. Taking extra time outside of class is something Mrs. Z wanted to do to help her students be successful. Stress can come about when your students aren’t learning what you are teaching. As a teacher you will always have to be finding ways to help EVERY student be as successful as they can be. Asking for help is something that you must consider. It’s ok to ask. It’s ok not to know everything, and sometimes new ideas from other people are even better. She really emphasized stealing ideas from other teachers. I think this is good that everyone is in agreeance with this because the wheel has already been invented. Im really excited about student teaching and then starting to be on my own. I am also nervous because I want to be a good teacher and I know it’s going to take a lot of work.
